[He's lying out on his bed and watching some terrible television when his phone rings. He picks it up and answers cheerfully.]

Dia dhuit. It's Cooper.

[She sounds tired, but, well. It's been a long week. A very long week.]

It's Abby. Hope you don't mind me calling.

I'm sittin' here stewing in my own juices.

[And also considering the problem of a rampaging newborn, but that was neither here nor there.]

What's on your mind, girlie?

[For several moments, Abigail is silent. Then, it comes, barely more than a whisper.]

They killed a girl.

[That she's near tears is probably all too evident in her voice.]

[He goes quiet, so quiet that it almost sounds like the line has gone dead. This is some heavy stuff.]

You saw it happen.

[It's not a question, merely a confirmation.]

She wouldn’t give up her sisters.

[There's a quiet sound on the other end, a stifled sob. She wants to scream but can't.]

I told the police it was a mugging.

You did the right thing. There was nothing you could have done.

[One lone dark witch couldn't stand up against the full might of the factions.]

Have you told anyone else besides me?

[She's considered telling one other person, and she shared a few things with him, but not that.]

I don't trust anyone else enough.

[A pause.]

One other person knows I'm going to start a coven.

Good. You know what they say. Two can keep a secret if one of them is dead.

[He stops and considers just how morbid that sounds.]

Are you now? Being a leader is a tough gig, y'know. Never got into it myself. Always better at taking orders than giving them out.

[Abigail has to steel herself. Because she needs to say it. Needs to own it. She's already made her mind up. Now, she has to stick to it.

Which means she has to tell people.]

As long as we're scattered, we can't do anything. We'll be picked off with no one to say a word.

So... we have to unite.

[And she couldn't ask someone else to lead what is her idea.]

And-- [She tries to laugh.] Yeah. I know I sound mental.

When I thought you'd do something t'help them out, I didn't think you meant anything quite this big. 'N you're right. You do sound mental.

[Still, she has courage and he can respect that.]

I can't speak for the rest of my nest, but I'll throw my full support behind you when the time comes. For whatever that's worth to you.

No one had ever taught her to expect to see this many similarities with the other groups. To feel such kinship with them all. But it's there none the less.]
